Jakarta, January 11, 2012 - Bank Mandiri provided Rp 2 billion in scholarships to 25 athletes who won medals in the 2011 SEA Games. The scholarships were symbolically presented by Mr. Zulkifli Zaini, Bank Mandiri's President Director to Mr. Franklin Ramses Burumi and Ms. Serafis Anelis Unani, 100-m sprinters, at the Mandiri Club in Jakarta on Wednesday (January 11, 2012), witnessed by Mr. Andi Mallarangeng, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Bob Hasan, Head of PASI (Indonesia Association of Athletics), and Mr. Tono Suratman, Head of KONI (Indonesia National Sports Committee).

Mr. Zulkifli Zaini said that the scholarships will help the athletes pursue higher education, develop professionalism, and reach higher achievements.

"Indonesia's achievement of medals in the last SEA Games, greatly exceeding the country's target, proves that the country has outstanding athletes. Those athletes need to be further nurtured and developed, both in terms of education and athletic skills, in order to reach higher achievements internationally," said Mr. Zulkifli Zaini.

Scholarships are provided to each medal winner until they reach graduation or for a five-year academic period. The annual scholarship amount varies for each type of winner: a gold medal winner receives Rp 40 million, silver medal Rp 20 million, and bronze medal Rp 14 million.

Mr. Bob Hasan expressed an appreciation to the government through the Ministry of State-Owned Entreprises for the attention given to the national athletes. He added that the support provided by Bank Mandiri to athletes through PASI provides the bank a positive image.

"The scholarship is conducive to helping athletes continue to accomplish future achievements and develop their professionalism," said Bob Hasan.
