POSCO ICT : to focus on growing business such as Robots and Logistics

POSCO ICT recorded remarkable management performance in the first half of this year compared to last year due to its business structure and technological innovation efforts promoted since last year.

POSCO ICT achieved 471 billion won in sales and 32.4 billion won in operating profit in the first half of this year. This is a 25% increase in sales and 193% increase in operating profit compared to the same period last year. In addition, orders, which can be said to be a leading indicator of performance, are increasing significantly.

This performance improvement is the result of improving cost competitiveness and boldly reorganizing the business portfolio through continuous business structure innovation since last year. In addition, it is analyzed that it was effective to increase employees' technology capabilities for core technologies such as AI and robots, while actively recruiting talent from outside to increase business competitiveness.

Based on its performance in the first half of the year, it plans to focus on fostering new growth businesses in the second half. POSCO ICT's management keywords for this year are 'innovation' and 'growth'. It plans to speed up innovation activities that have been going on since last year and strengthen market leadership by combining new technologies such as digital twin, while securing growth engines by fostering new businesses in industrial robots, smart logistics, and safety control platforms.

In particular, it plans to apply industrial robots to manufacturing sites including steel mills in earnest. POSCO ICT launched POSCO Group-level "Robot Technology Council" in May and is pushing to apply robots to high-risk and high-intensity workplaces to realize safe workplaces. POSCO ICT is in charge of overall robot automation engineering such as consulting, design, construction, and operation for robot application, while providing a role in establishing a convergence system in which robots are linked to existing solutions such as smart factories.

In addition, it plans to further expand the participation of major courier service providers in the fulfilment center by utilizing the proven logistics automation technology in the construction and operation of Incheon Airport's Baggage Handling System (BHS), which boasts the world's highest accuracy. Currently, POSCO ICT is developing GS Home Shopping, Hanjin Delivery Logistics Center, and POSCO Group's integrated logistics platform.

The smart safety sector, which is increasing in demand due to the implementation of the Severe Disaster Punishment Act, will also actively promote commercialization. POSCO ICT is supplying a "smart safety control platform" that integrates and manages safety at industrial sites, and plans to start projects that spread to manufacturing, construction, and plant sites this year.
