Employees want development. Organisations want employees who can develop new skills and attributes to drive business performance. A simple equation? Maybe not. Lack of career development is continually cited as one of the main drivers for changing jobs, so what's not working?

It's no surprise that flatter, leaner structures, less obvious career paths, longer working lives and differing generational expectations all present a challenge to development and as a consequence, employee engagement. Fostering a culture where employees truly 'own' their careers is increasingly important. Yet research from Penna reveals that 1 in 5 employees have been thinking about changing roles for 11 months, with lack of development cited as a key reason. So what options do you have as an organisation and what are the wider considerations?

I hope you can join us on Wednesday 20th April at Trent Bridge,Nottinghamshire or Thursday 21st April at Welford Road, Leicester for our next HRD Forums where we will explore the latest thinking around how developing and implementing a career activist culture increases engagement. Hosted by Penna's Career Development Expert, Nicky Smith and Career Development Coach, Jo McVerry we will focus on what it means to be a career activist, providing you with an opportunity to test your own level of 'activism' and discuss any challenges that exist to actively managing your career in today's dynamic business environment.
