Palabora Copper CEO, Mr Han Jinghua says he is proud to be working with a woman of high- calibre, talent and values for the business. Dikeledi exude zeal to operate successfully in this occasionally harsh and hard mining industry mostly dominated by men. The follows the announcement by the 11th Standard Bank Top Women Awards committee that Dikeledi Nakene, Palabora Copper's Chief Financial Officer, is a finalist on the Top Businesswoman of the Year Award category for the year 2014.
Enthused, Mr Han said; "I am proud to congratulate our shining and exemplary woman, Chief Financial Officer, Dikeledi Nakene, who has been nominated recently in South Africa's well-known women recognition awards."
The Top Women Awards is a prestigious event in which inspirational wome leaders are celebrated for remarkable performance in the business and government world. The awards category was sponsored by Women in Mining South Africa making is even more significant that Palabora CFO is nominated.
Born and raised in gaModjadji in Limpopo province, Dikeledi is one of the many women in our society who have placed themselves at the centre of economic development, without
any difficulty in traversing in the hitherto male dominated terrain.

Speaking of her nomination into the finalist of Top Women Awards, Dikeledi was lost for
words. "I've never thought that I would find myself in such a space. I am truly humbled to
be selected amongst South Africa's best women, and thanks to all my colleagues for being
very supportive and providing robust input in all areas of our business," Dikeledi said.
According to Maboko Mahlaole, company's General Manager for Human Capital; "Not only is Dikeledi's nomination significant for the role she plays in Palabora Copper, but more so
a great epitome of our Women in Mining initiative that indeed we are making a good
progress," adding that "indeed, we should all do more!"
The Women in Mining together with the various teams are engaging robustly to elevate the agenda of women empowerment and the support being received will certainly yield more results in the year 2014 and beyond," continued Maboko. "Dikeledi has been a true champion in continuously mentoring other women within and outside the business to steadfast in their roles and learn more from others across the business."
Tenacious with costs reductions and strong business acumen, other motivating factors leading to Dikeledi's nomination included her role in the finalization of the divestment process by Rio Tinto, the continued effort to stabilize the costs in our business and surely the profit the business has made in the last financial year - of course because of the teamwork.
Mr. Han says Nakene has set the tone, and "I believe we have many of you in the business that can exceed her achievement. To the rest of the colleagues let us continue supporting women in our business."
Other prominent women finalists in the category included Aspen Pharma-care's Lorraine Hill, Quest Staffing Solutions' Kay Vittee, BIE Group's Hannelie Nel and Sizwe-Ntsaluba- Gobodo's Nonkululeko Gobodo. Nonkululeko is a founder of South Africa's biggest black- owned audit firm and was named 'Top Businesswoman of the Year Award' in the award ceremony that was held in Emperors Palace on Thursday, 14 August 2014.
According to Keith Mathole, General Manager for Corporate Affairs at Palabora Copper, "the caliber of these nominees is an indication that we have one of the best in the company and in the country."

Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited (Palabora) is a copper mine, smelter and refinery complex based in the town of Phalaborwa, in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The mine owes its origins to a unique rock formation in the region known as the Palabora Igneous Complex.

Palabora has been operational since its incorporation in 1956 and is the country's only producer of refined copper, producing approximately 80 000 tonnes per year.
