Junxion, Inc. today announced the release of Junxion firmware version 1.6, a much anticipated upgrade that features the first GPS-enabled remote management tool created for IT administrators managing Junxion Box? cellular router deployments.

Developed in collaboration with partners including Novatel Wireless (NASDAQ:NVTL), Junxion's Field Commander? GPS application is the first remote management tool that lets administrators map the location and status of deployed cellular routers. The hosted solution utilizes GPS-capable modems such as the Novatel S720. The S720 was Sprint Nextel's first EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capable data device.

?The Novatel Wireless S720 has been well received by Sprint's enterprise customers for good reason: it's powered by a Qualcomm chip with integrated GPS, eliminating the need for external GPS devices and antennas. These features appeal to our customers too, so we moved quickly to integrate the modem's functionality into Junxion's remote management tool,? said Junxion President Peter Polson. ?Novatel made this possible through a terrific SDK (software development kit) which allowed us to build the advance drivers that leverage the GPS functionality.?

?The widespread proliferation of high-speed cellular data networks and GPS services has triggered a great demand among enterprise customers for solutions that allow for the remote management of the mobile workforce,? said Jon Driscoll, vice president of product management at Novatel Wireless. ?We are pleased that Junxion has been able to leverage technology from Novatel Wireless to enable these next generation applications.?

Many network administrators use Junxion's Field Commander to track and manage Junxion Box routers from a single web browser. Now that Junxion has added GPS mapping to its hosted management tool, IT managers can track network assets via the familiar Google Maps user interface, precisely mapping the physical location of any Junxion Box router that is fitted with a modem equipped with GPS.

Junxion firmware version 1.6 is available at no charge for download at www.junxion.com or through any Junxion Field Commander account. Other v1.6 features include:

  • Support for upgraded EV-DO Rev. A networks with fast uplink and downlink connections, enabling enterprise applications that require duplex broadband throughout.
  • Support for custom DNS configurations.
  • Dynamic signal strength and data card diagnostics for Novatel Wireless modems.
