Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Third Quarter and Nine Months Ended December 31, 2016; Revises Earnings Guidance for the Year Ending March 31, 2017

Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended December 31, 2016. For the quarter, the company reported revenues of ¥485,967 million against ¥568,397 million a year ago. Operating income was ¥6,955 million against ¥8,543 million a year ago. Recurring profit was ¥25,909 million against ¥13,307 million a year ago. Profit attributable to owners of parent was ¥5,719 million or ¥3.39 per share against loss attributable to owners of parent of ¥31,946 million or ¥18.84 per share a year ago.
For the nine months, the company reported revenues of ¥1,414,549 million against ¥1,766,695 million a year ago. Operating loss was ¥15,516 million against operating income of ¥47,166 million a year ago. Recurring profit was ¥2,292 million against ¥56,019 million a year ago. Loss attributable to owners of parent was ¥226,093 million or ¥133.69 per share against profit attributable to owners of parent of ¥22,822 million or ¥13.46 per share a year ago. Loss before income taxes was ¥208,582 million against profit before income taxes of ¥57.803 million a year ago.
For the year ending March 31, 2017, the company expects consolidated revenues of ¥1,905.0 billion compared to previous guidance of ¥1,865 billion, operating loss of ¥17.5 billion compared to previous guidance of ¥25.5 billion, loss attributable to owners of parent of ¥245,000 million or ¥144.96 per share.
Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) is one of the world's largest transport and logistics services providers. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- bulk sea transport (42.7%): dry bulk, vehicles, oil products transport, etc.;
- containers sea transport (37.1%). The group also develops a containers terminals operation activity;
- logistics services (8.2%): storage, warehousing, delivery services, etc.;
- freight air transport (7.8%);
- other (4.2%): primarily real estate management, ships maintenance and repair.
At the end of March 2022, the group had a fleet of 658 vessels.
