Employees of the company and Neoenergia Institute added the amount to support victims in the region
Due to the heavy rains of recent weeks in southern Bahia, thousands of people were impacted and homeless at the site. Neoenergia's Volunteer Program, in partnership with Transforma Brasil and WSolidário, organized a group of donations among its employees. Volunteers raised more than R$ 62,000 in donations to victims in the region. To boost the aid, the Neoenergia Institute doubled the value and the action totaled more than R$ 124,000, which will be reverted into mattresses, stoves and other items needed by the population.
"In a challenging year, the tragedy experienced by the residents of Bahia has brought even more difficulty for countless families and, therefore, contributing to support for vulnerable and impacted people is extremely important. The emotional reward we feel and the engagement of the company's employees is motivating, the Institute has come to reinforce this important action promoted by thecompany," says Renata Chagas, ceo of the Neoenergia Institute.
To add efforts, Neoenergia Coelba,the company's energy distributor in the state, will also donate 2,000 refrigerators and 5,000 lamps through the Energy Efficiency Program,regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). The heavy rains were responsible for impacting the lives of more than 70,000 people in the region and about 3,700 were homeless, according to the Bahia Military Fire Department.
Neoenergia's Volunteer Program coordinates several actions throughout the country. In 2021, 177 voluntary actions were carried out by the company's employees, related to the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed by the UN, with a special focus on SDG number 7, which ensures access to energy in a reliable, sustainable and accessible way for all, and in SD 13, aimed at actions to combat climate change and its impacts. There are also projects focused on SDGs 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality) and 10 (reduction of inequalities).
