The hydroelectric plants that belong to Neoenergia carry out several socio-environmental actions with the objective of promoting economic and sustainable development in the regions that receive the enterprises. Focusing on the preservation of the environment and the benefit of society, the company makes financial investments in the development of initiatives that favor several communities throughout Brazil.

With strong investment, the Itapebi Hydroelectric Power Plant (ESU), for example, allocated about R$ 4.6 million to projects developed in the municipality of Salto da Divisa (MG). This amount was applied in the removal of macrophytes - aquatic plants that are born in rivers and swamps, in addition to R$ 2.5 million for the sewage treatment system. With the capture of about 40% of the sewage, so far, the project is still in progress and has as its current objective the reform of the municipal Sewage Treatment Plant (ETE) that reaches approximately 90% of the local population.

The Plant also signed an agreement with the House of Mercy for donation to the orphanage located in the municipality of Itapebi (BA), which keeps 20 children full-time because they are in a situation of abandonment or risk. The partnership has been in force since 2009 and enables a fixed donation of R$1,000.00 per month. In this period of pandemic, caused by the new Coronavirus,80 basic baskets, 1000 masks and 300 gel alcons were made to the city's Social Assistance Secretariat.

'The initiatives developed, including those related to the environmental licensing of the enterprises, seek to support key sectors such as Health, Infrastructure and environment. Among the beneficiaries are indigenous and riverside groups, as well as families in rural areas and difficult to access,' says Daniel Novaes, engineer of the Renewable Hydraulic Sane Directorate.

Another highlight is the Teles Pires UhE,located on the border between Pará and Mato Grosso, which carried out relevant works for the region. The company built 95 km of roads, carried out 25 health works, 14 in education and 11 in culture and leisure infrastructure. In all, there are 44 socio-environmental programs carried out and 18 Indigenous Programs, which together total a total of R$ 565 million invested in the environmental and indigenous areas. The Plant also contributed to the collection of R$ 100 million in Municipal and State Taxes, each. With the beginning of the generation, the municipalities, States and Federation received more than R$ 180 million in royalties, expanding local resources.

The work also resulted in the development of a project of anti-school grids, considered a reference in the hydroelectric sector and whose result generated a greater preservation of the Ichthyofauna of the region with an investment of R$ 15 million.

During supervised visits, young people can learn about the facilities of the enterprise and understand how a hydroelectric plant works.*
