Meggitt selected by Snecma (Safran Group) for another multi-million dollar LEAP engine sensors package

Meggitt PLC ("Meggitt" or "the Group"), a leading international company specialising in high performance components and sub-systems for the aerospace, defence and energy markets, announces that Snecma (Safran Group) has selected Meggitt Sensing Systems to provide a key package of sensor products for the LEAP-1B engine. Developed by CFM International (1), the engine will power the Boeing 737MAX, which has already secured orders for over 1,000 aircraft.

Meggitt estimates the agreement will generate revenues (including original equipment, spares and repairs) of more than $300 million over the life of this engine.

Meggitt will supply a comprehensive suite of sensing products, measuring vibration, shaft speed, critical temperatures and oil level, supporting LEAP engine operators with its global customer service organisation. The LEAP sensor contracts were signed after continuing 100% on time delivery and quality from Meggitt Sensing Systems' Basingstoke facility in the UK, for which it received a best supplier award from Snecma for excellent operational performance on the CFM56 programme.

Meggitt won engine sensor packages on the LEAP-1A and 1C in January 2012.  The follow-on 1B win takes the value of Meggitt's sensors on LEAP family engines to some $500 million over the lifetime of the Boeing, Airbus (A320 neo) and COMAC (C919) aircraft.

Terry Twigger, Meggitt's Chief Executive commented:   "This contract underscores our belief that delivery and quality improvements will drive the Group's long-term organic growth potential.  We are delighted that Snecma has demonstrated continued confidence in our business and look forward to strengthening our relationship further."
