(Alliance News) - Maire Tecnimont Spa announced on Wednesday that its subsidiary Nextchem, through its subsidiary MyRechemical, which leads the Waste-to-Chemicals segment, has been selected by DG Fuels Louisiana to provide the Process Design Package for a SAF plant currently under development in St. James Parish, Louisiana, in the US.

The plant, expected to be operational in 2028, will produce 350,000 tons per year of SAF derived from agricultural waste and refuse. MyRechemical has been selected as the technology licensor of the gasification and gas treatment units capable of processing 1,000,000 tons per year of sugarcane waste and the extraction residue from its processing. The process is the first step in the production of SAF.

Gasification technology and know-how to transform synthetic gas into high value-added products play a key role in Nextchem's technology portfolio, making it a key player in decarbonizing industries through the circular economy, Maire explained.

Alessandro Bernini, CEO of Maire Group, said, "The award is a great recognition of our efforts to implement and industrialize the Waste-to-Chemicals solutions developed by Nextchem. The industry is rewarding our expertise and commitment to technologies that support decarbonization. Being selected for this strategic project confirms that our technology is well positioned in a competitive market like the U.S., where circularity is playing a key role in achieving carbon footprint reduction goals."

Michael Darcy, CEO and president of DG Fuel, commented, "We are very happy about this agreement that allows us to use Nextchem's gasification technology in our first carbon neutral SAF plant. Nextchem's superior technology, strong engineering skills and financial strength make it the ideal partner in our efforts to decarbonize the aviation industry."

Maire Tecnimont's stock is up 0.1 percent at EUR4.60 per share.
