Macy's Inc. announced it would close several stores in the Pittsburgh region this spring as it pares down costs, another move by a traditional department store operator to cope with a shifting retail environment. The locations include Washington Crown Center in Washington, affecting 67 workers; Shenango Valley in Hermitage, affecting 69 workers; and Beaver Valley in Monaca, affecting 78 workers. Overall, about 3,900 workers are estimated to be displaced by the decision, according to the company, which has corporate offices in Cincinnati and New York.
