ISAGRO SPA DEDICATES ITS RESEARCH CENTER TO RENATO UGO IN HIS MEMORY

Novara, February 19, 2021 - Yesterday, in Novara, a plaque in memory of Renato Ugo was uncovered in front of his wife and some devoted friends and colleagues in the Isagro SpA Research Center, as of today dedicated to him.

President of Isagro Giorgio Basile, after welcoming his guests, paid tribute to Renato Ugo as an extraordinary figure, by highlighting three aspects of his personality. First of all, the value of scientific research, then a shared experience in such an important company as Montedison was some decades ago: moments in which Renato Ugo was a clear and honest "adviser" on entrepreneurial matters in additional to being a professional researcher. Last but not least, his human side. A true friend, as Basile called him, but even something more: "He was just so sensitive … being his friend was really great".

Then, Ugo's colleague Paolo Piccardi took the word. He recalled when, past Head of Lifescience Dept. at Guido Donegani Institute, he used to see, in the industrial and academic contexts, Renato Ugo "a legend for all the students of Industrial Chemistry in Milan". His forthrightness characterized him even when he was worldly known. Thanks to Renato, Montedison lived golden years in research, which depended less and less on basic chemistry ."

After that, Rinaldo Psaro, past Director of the Institute of Molecular Sciences and Technologies of the CNR, recalled when he first met Ugo at the Guido Donegani Institute in 1978 and the "chimica fine" (fine chemistry) project developed for Isagro in the following years. "I am thrilled that a Research Center like Isagro's is dedicated to his memory. If right now he was here with us, he would be deeply happy".

Lastly, Franco Caressa, the deputy major of Novara, took the word, by bringing greetings from his town and highlighting the crucial role played by Isagro Research Center in the territory. "This event has a cultural value for the city of Novara. As its administrator, I will be at your disposal for cooperating together and making this Center even better known, first to my fellow citizens".

Next Tuesday, February 23, during a streamed live event, Renato Ugo will be remembered also thanks to the valuable testimony of some important exponents of the academic/scientific and industrial world.
