ID-50A/ID-50E Brings the Fun of the D-STAR Experience at an Affordable Price
Icom Inc. will release the ID-50A (USA version) and ID-50E (EUR version), a VHF and UHF dual band digital transceiver. It is scheduled to launched around July-August 2023 for USA and EUR versions.
The ID-50A/E brings the Fun of the D-STAR Experience. By connecting to a D-STAR (Digital Smart Technology for Amateur Radio) network, you can call a friend in another city, or other regions around the world. Use the Terminal Mode and Access Point Mode*1 for building your own internet gateway to access the D-STAR repeater network, even in an area with no D-STAR repeaters nearby. The D-STAR DV mode can send not only voice, but also image data. Photos from a smart device can imported into the ID-50A/E using the ST-ID50A/W picture utility software to exchange photos and QSL cards.
The ID-50A/E has functions to enhance your QSO experience. The Band Scope and Waterfall displays can visually show active channels with a wide span and timeline, so it is easy to find active channels by sight. The Dualwatch function doubles QSO opportunities to monitor VHF/VHF, VHF/UHF and UHF/UHF bands at the same time. The ID-50A/E can receive both the Airband and the FM bands. Moreover, almost all of the optional accessories for the ID-52/ID-51/ID-31 series transceivers can be shared. Large capacity battery pack, BP-307 for the IC-705 is usable as well.

*1 Terminal and Access Point modes are compatible with the Icom RS-RP3 Gateway Software. If your D-STAR repeater is running G1 or G2 software, ask the repeater administrator to contact the local Icom Distributor to upgrade the software. You need an Internet connection with an IPv4 Global IP address. If you use a cellular system, you need an IPv4 Global IP address assigned to your Android™ device. The RS-MS3W optional software is required to be installed on your PC (Download from Icom website). The RS-MS3A optional application software is required to be installed on Android™ devices (Download on Google Play™)
