ICF International (NASDAQ:ICFI), a leading provider of consulting services and technology solutions to government and commercial clients, has been awarded a new contract by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES) to operate the Regional Education Laboratory (REL) Mid-Atlantic. In addition, ICF has been named to lead the Coordinating Entity for the REL program. The combined contract has a value of $32.8 million and a term of five years.

Under the contract, ICF will provide assessment of regional needs and services, maintenance and refinement of research alliances, analytic technical support, applied research and evaluation studies, general management and reporting, and coordinated support for all 10 REL entities throughout the United States. ICF initially will focus on assisting the Department of Education in improving practice through rigorous research in the areas of dropout prevention, teacher effectiveness, rural education, and early childhood education. As the Coordinating Entity for the REL program, ICF will play a central role in facilitating cross-regional efforts between RELs, developing standardized stakeholder feedback tools, and providing RELs with an intranet for interaction and peer exchange.

"We look forward to supporting the IES mission to provide rigorous and relevant evidence on which to ground education practice and policy and to share this information broadly," said Maureen Murphy, senior vice president for ICF International. "By identifying what works, what doesn't, and why, our efforts are aimed at improving educational outcomes for all students, particularly those at risk of failure."
