Mental Health Organization Taps Ericom to Equip Hundreds of Case Workers Using Chromebooks with Browser-Based Access to Windows Environments
Closter, N.J., (October 22, 2014) - Ericom Software, a global leader in application access and desktop virtualization solutions, has been chosen by Continuum of Care to provide up to 700 case-workers with remote, 24-hour access from Chromebooks to Windows desktops. Headquartered in New Haven, Connecticut, Continuum of Care, Inc. runs approximately 40 residential homes in different locations throughout the state. Seeking a simpler and more reliable mobile computing solution than netbooks, Continuum turned to Chromebooks, which at a price point of $300 per device, were also a more cost-effective alternative to traditional laptops. "We wanted to provide our case workers with remote access to their Windows desktops and applications, but Chromebooks do not support this capability natively," said Peter Mooney, IT Manager of Continuum of Care, Inc. "We tried several remote desktop applications. Only AccessNow had the gateway settings and performance, which allow our case workers to connect to our headquarters and be productive, regardless of where they are located." Mooney added, "Instead of getting a thousand-dollar laptop that requires ongoing updates and management, the combination of Chromebooks and AccessNow allows us to deliver a Microsoft Windows experience with Office applications inside the browser." As a not-for-profit organization, Continuum of Care has a limited IT budget, requiring Mooney and his team to find creative ways to keep case workers productive in the field, without compromising quality service. The organization is saving an average of $600 per user as they expand. Implementing BYOD is also a future objective and can be easily accommodated by Continuum of Care's investment in Ericom AccessNow, which enables access from any device running an HTML5 browser, such as a PC, Mac, iPad or Android device. "We are thrilled to help Continuum of Care enhance their mobile computing capabilities with clientless remote access to their Windows desktops, from any location," said Joshua Behar, Ericom Software's President. "It is important to help maximize the limited IT budget for a non-profit organization, and we are proud that AccessNow can help make it easier for the Continuum of Care staff to take care of those who are in need."
