IT Center at University Research Park and a new partnership with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications will help to propel Dow R&D

MIDLAND, Mich. - January 14, 2013

The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: DOW) today announced it has established an information technology development center at the University of Illinois Research Park in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., where 16 accomplished students in computer science and related fields will work part-time to help develop data management solutions to drive value and accelerate discovery in the Research and Development (R&D) organizations throughout Dow. The Innovation center will start its operations in the spring 2013 semester.

In conjuction with the opening of the new office, Dow has entered into an industry partnership with the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), also located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As part of the partnership agreement, NCSA will provide powerful computers and expert support to help Dow's scientists and student researchers accelerate discovery. This partnership will enable Dow to leverage the center's expertise and knowledge of best practices in high-performance modeling and simulation to gain a competitive edge.

The new operation is in the Research Park, which is located on campus to better connect industry with researchers and students. "The work environment will provide students with the opportunity to enhance their University of Illinois education with real-life experiences that impact industry and address major global product solutions," said Lawrence Schook, University of Illinois Vice President for Research. For Dow, the partnership with UIUC is also strategic to connect the Company with unique, young academic talents in the fields of informatics and computer science.
