The Duchess of Cambridge visited Family Friends this week a charity DMGT have supported for over six years, RMS is cited by Canadian Underwriter for information on the Elon windstorm that recently came to the UK and Zoopla is reporting record highs in user activity on its website and on mobiles.

On Monday 19 January, the Duchess of Cambridge travelled around Kensington for a morning of engagements. The Duchess' first stop of the day was at Family Friends, a charity which supports disadvantaged families, where she took part in a coffee morning with volunteers, families and staff. DMGT have supported Family Friends for over six years. The Duchess was introduced to DMGT employee, Janette Shaw, Group Reward Manager, who has been a part of the mentoring programme since September 2014.  Janette commented, "Family Friends is a truly wonderful organisation. It was an unexpected honour to have the opportunity to meet the Duchess and a pleasure to see how interested she was in the charity's work."

RMS

Catastrophe risk modeller Risk Management Solutions is announcing the appointment of Cory Isaacson as Chief Technology Officer. RMS CEO Hemant Shah says Isaacson, who is founder and CEO of CodeFutures Corporation, is known as one of the "brightest innovators in the field of big data and analytic computing." Isaacson will lead the RMS(one) development program. RMS is also appointing Chandler Hosington has Vice President of Engineering, who will report to Isaacson.

RMS is cited by Canadian Underwriter for information on the Elon windstorm that recently came to the UK. The company reports that strong winds brought by the storm brought down trees and power lines in Scotland, where rural areas were most severely hit. RMS also notes that there is a limited amount of information available on structural damage that has occurred.

Commercial real estate information provider CompStak is reporting that new leases account for more than 60% of office space leased in Manhattan last year, a figure indicative of the rising activity in the market. The company says this increase is most deeply felt in the Midtown South area, where average rents are now more than $60 per square foot. CompStak CEO Michael Mandel says these numbers are among those which are "a terrific signal of both a growing market, and a stable one."

On Tuesday 20 January, Mary Dhonau, OBE, chief executive of Know Your Flood Risk, spoke at a House of Commons reception sponsored by Roger Williams, MP, and attended by forty MPs. Dhonau outlined the current flood risk to homeowners and joined the Association of British Insurers in calling for increased investment in flood risk management and an end to housing development on flood plains. Know Your Flood Risk provides homeowners with access to flood reports, generated using Landmark Information Group's flood risk data, which enables homeowners to assess the flood risk to their individual property.

Conveyancing search service provider SearchFlow is reporting a slowing in the conveyancing market, a result of the slowing property market, as indicated by the company's Conveyancer Sentiment Survey. According to the survey, only 29% of respondents reported having witnessed an increase in business volumes between October and December 2014. According to SearchFlow Managing Director John Pickford, the levelling out of the market was certain to come following the "sharp spike in the market in early 2014." He notes that the company provides a suite of solutions for conveyancers that can help them to "make the most of their businesses in 2015 and beyond."

Zoopla, the UK's most comprehensive property website, is reporting record highs in user activity on its website and on mobiles. Zoopla Property Group's websites attracted a total visitor figure of almost 2m in a single day on Tuesday this week and an increase of 7.3% in total traffic for the period from New Year's Day to 13 January, compared with last year. The company says early indications for the current year suggest it will "smash" its record for appraisal leads.
