The event will be moderated by Suraj Kalia, Senior Medical Device Analyst at Rodman & Renshaw, LLC. The topics to be covered include: the current state of affairs in the healthcare landscape, the need for a structural shake-up, effects of reform on company pricing strategies, hospital purchasing patterns, delivery of care, current political posturing, and the impact of reform on consumers. Our panelists will attempt to separate fact from fiction through three different perspectives: the policy perspective (General Wesley K. Clark), the managed care perspective (James M. Mead), and the administrative/operations perspective (Dr. Peter Costantino, Mark J. Solazzo).

Background of Panelists:

General Wesley K. Clark - serves as Chairman and CEO of Wesley K. Clark & Associates, a strategic consulting firm; Chairman of investment bank Rodman & Renshaw; Chairman of Emergya Wind Technologies Americas; Co-Chairman of Growth Energy; senior fellow at UCLA's Burkle Center for International Relations; Director of International Crisis Group; and Chairman of City Year Little Rock. General Clark has authored three books and serves as a member of the Clinton Global Initiative's Energy & Climate Change Advisory Board, and ACORE's Advisory Board. Clark retired a four star general after 38 years in the United States Army. He graduated first in his class at West Point and completed degrees in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University (B.A. and M.A.) as a Rhodes Scholar. His awards include the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Defense Distinguished Service Medal (five awards), Silver star, bronze star, purple heart, honorary knighthoods from the British and Dutch governments, and numerous other awards from other governments, including award of Commander of the Legion of Honor (France).

James M. Mead - is the Vice Chairman of the Board and Special Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer for Capital BlueCross. He served as President and CEO of Capital BlueCross for 20 years. From 1988 to 2004, Mr. Mead served on the Board of Directors of national BlueCross BlueShield Association. Prior to joining Capital BlueCross, he was a member of the faculty of Penn State University and served as a health economist and special assistant to the Pennsylvania Commissioner. He is a past Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. Mr. Mead is currently a Venture Partner with Radius Ventures, LLC (New York, NY), Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Pennsylvania Lawyers Fund for Client Security of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, PA). He also serves on several corporate Boards including the Boards of the Hershey Trust Company, the Milton Hershey School and the Hershey Foundation.

Dr. Peter Costantino - is the Executive Director of the New York Head and Neck Institute, the Senior Vice President for the Head and Neck Surgery Service Line North Shore-LIJ System, and the Director of the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital. Until recently, Dr. Costantino was a Professor of Otolaryngology and the Director of the Cranial Base Surgery Program at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and remains an adjunct Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has substantial expertise in the development of implantable surgical devices and biomaterial, having founded or significantly participated in the development of Parallax Medical (Arthorcare, inc.), LifeCell Corporation (KCI International), BoneSource TM (Stryker Corporation), Revive TM (Biomerix Corporation), and the Galen VII monitoring device (Galen Medical, LLC.). He has served as a consultant to a number of medical companies, has published over 100 articles, chapters, and abstracts, holds a number of patents, and lectures frequently. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for Biomerix Corporation.

Mark J. Solazzo - is the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. Prior to 2005, Mr. Solazzo served as Chief of Staff and Chief Administrative officer to the North Shore-LIJ Health System's President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Solazzo held a number of positions in his fifteen year tenure at the New York State Department of Social Services. He earned Harvard University's Innovations in Government Award for his work on New York's Child Assistance Program. Mr. Solazzo is a member of the Healthcare Institute, Inc., the Health Management Academy, and the Healthcare Association of New York State. He is an adjunct Professor of Health Care Management at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, NY.
