Coelce reported earnings results for the second and six months of fiscal 2014. For the quarter, the company has posted a 64% year-on-year decline in profit amid soaring wholesale energy prices. Net profit plummeted by 64.4% yearly to BRL 26.8 million in the second quarter of 2014. Net operating revenue jumped by 23.3% to BRL 860.3 million. The revenue increases mirrored the higher consumption of electricity in the company's concession area and Coelce's tariff hike approved by power sector regulator Aneel in April. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) plunged 27.7% to BRL 93.6 million.

For the first half of 2014, the company's net profit slumped by 33.7% to BRL 91.4 million. The falls were chiefly attributed to the higher energy costs. Net operating revenue jumped by 13% annually to BRL 2.03 billion in the first half. EBITDA came in at BRL 170.3 million in the first half, down 33.9% in annual terms.
