The board of directors of the China Demeter Investments Limited announced that the company is expected to record a substantial loss for the year ended 31 December 2017 when compared with a loss of approximately HKD 14.4 million for the year ended 31 December 2016. Based on the Board's preliminary assessment of the unaudited consolidated management accounts of the Company and the information currently available to the Group, the loss for 2017 was principally attributable to the loss in the Group's securities investment segment, comprising loss in fair value of financial assets through profit or loss of approximately HKD 87.5 million when compared with the gain in fair value of financial assets through profit or loss of approximately HKD 0.2 million in 2016 as a result of the volatile stock market in Hong Kong during 2017. Such financial assets through profit or loss are mainly composed of listed equity securities in Hong Kong whose fair values were determined with reference to the quoted market prices in the market and/or the realised loss of the Group's investments.
