The board of directors of the China Demeter Investments Limited announced that the company is expected to record a substantial decrease in profit or may even record a loss for the year ended 31 December 2016 when compared with the profit of approximately HKD 13.0 million for the year ended 31 December 2015. Based on the board's preliminary assessment of the unaudited consolidated management accounts of the company and the information currently available to the Group, the decrease in profit for fiscal year 2016 was mainly attributable to a decrease in income recorded from the money lending business of the group for fiscal year 2016 of more than 50% when compared with an income of approximately HKD 13.4 million for fiscal year 2015; the record of a gain in fair value of financial assets through profit or loss of approximately HKD 0.2 million for fiscal year 2016 when compared with the gain in fair value of financial assets through profit or loss of approximately HKD 3.6 million in fiscal year 2015 as a result of the volatile stock market in Hong Kong during fiscal year 2016. Such financial assets through profit or loss are mainly composed of listed equity securities in Hong Kong whose fair values are determined with reference to the quoted market prices in the market; an increase in the share result (loss) of a joint venture of the group for fiscal year 2016 when compared with a loss of approximately HKD 0.7 million for fiscal year 2015; but the decrease in profit was partly offset by income derived from the group's new financial services business which was acquired in September 2016.
