• Potential Fire Hazard: limited number of tumble dryers can in extremely rare circumstances catch fire
  • Consumers are requested to check Siemens tumble dryers manufactured in the year 2002
  • Free repair eliminates this issue

Munich, 10. September 2014 - BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH requests all customers who own a Siemens tumble dryer manufactured in the year 2002 to check whether their appliance is affected by this current safety notice so that it can be repaired. A limited number of appliances which were manufactured in the period from January to May 2002 might due to a defective electronic component in the control panel possibly overheat, which can in extremely rare cases lead to a potential fire hazard. The free repair of this defective component on site by a service technician eliminates this issue. Until repaired, appliances affected by this issue should as a precautionary measure only be operated under supervision, i.e. if someone is at home and not during nights.

The safety of its customers has top priority for BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH. The company, therefore, is today initiating a voluntary safety action for a limited number of tumble dryers. Approximately 100,000 appliances manufactured in the period from January to May 2002 are affected, the majority of which were sold in Germany. This safety campaign is being carried out with immediate effect. To date, there have been a total of 26 reports of smouldering fires in Germany, although we have received no reports of any injuries. In order to reach as many consumers as possible, adverts will be placed in various print and online media in the coming weeks.

To check whether a tumble dryer is affected by this safety action, customers can enter their appliance data at the website www.siemens-home.com/tumbledryersafety or alternatively contact our customer service on the freephone number 0800-3004711, which is available from Monday to Friday, 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. An appointment to repair the appliance will be made promptly with consumers affected by this issue.

BSH would like to apologize to all consumers for any inconvenience caused.
