Certification Integrated Management System ISO 14000, ISO 9001 and OSHAS 18001 for Befesa Valera

After a year and half of sustained efforts, Befesa Valera has successfully passed the certification of its Integrated Management System, with respect to the three standards ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001.

This project was initiated when it became obvious that multiplying certification with regards to environment (Befesa Valera was already certified), quality, and occupational safety and health would result in a multiplication of procedures and paperwork in the plant, which would quickly become hard to manage. On top of that, maintaining three separate systems for each and every standards would have been costly in terms of auditing cost, as well as time consuming for the entire management.

Under the supervision of Joël Vatinel, head of the QHSE department, Valera started to review all procedures and document with regards to the three above mentioned standards, in order to updated them and ensure full compliancy with the three standards requirements.

Befesa Valera was already certified in Environment management since 2003. Therefore, most of the work was focused on developing the HS and quality procedures and documentation. Particular attention was given on risks and the proper action to be taken to mitigate them. Besides, Social Responsibility and Global Reporting Initiative are now fully integrated in the global management system.

With this new certification in place, Befesa Valera comfort its position as a responsible company, developing business based on customer satisfaction, and taking care of the people on site as well as stakeholder outside the site, in line with the global strategy of the Abengoa group.
