"Year after year, I am impressed with the passion teachers have for their profession and the efforts they put forth in the classroom daily to improve the lives of their students. Outstanding student achievement begins with excellent classroom teaching and these 10 individuals represent the many dedicated educators across West Virginia who are shaping tomorrow's leaders. We congratulate them on their efforts to ensure every student reaches his or her full potential and salute them for this well-deserved recognition."
Selecting 10 individuals to receive an Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Award is a multi-step process. The public nominates teachers for the annual award, and applicants must complete a rigorous application, which includes essays on teaching as a profession and teaching philosophy, a section on educational development and professional achievement, and three letters of recommendation. A blue-ribbon panel of past award recipients then selects the top 10 from among all those applying.
Arch Coal has a long history of supporting educational and community causes in West Virginia. It also supports a teacher recognition program in Wyoming.
