Andrews Sykes : Distinguished London hospital seeks heater hire for COVID testing and vaccination centres

Since the coronavirus outbreak, Andrews has worked alongside the NHS on a national scale to provide a range of essential HVAC services. Initially tasked with supplying comfort cooling in hospitals, improving ventilation in sealed areas and connecting boilers for temporary heating and showering facilities, our input is now required to help assist the next stage of recovery.

One of the capital's largest and most well-known hospitals contacted us in early December and asked us to propose a short-term heating configuration that would maintain a comfortable temperature inside two temporary structures.

The two modular buildings had been erected on an empty part of the site with a view to being fully operational as quickly as possible. The larger of the two structures was a COVID-19 testing centre that was specifically used to test members of staff based at the hospital. A smaller temporary building was constructed to administer vaccines to frontline workers, with this two-pronged facility deemed vital in the fight to protecting patients and healthcare professionals.

An FH185 indirect fired heating unit was stationed outside the testing centre, delivering warm air inside via ducting that passed through an opening. An ID65 heater was deployed in a similar fashion outside the smaller structure, maintaining a constant indoor temperature while people received their jabs.

Despite the requirement's short notice, our regional expert was able to recommend a suitable heater hire package based on the dimensions and intended purpose of two newly created medical applications. The equipment is set to remain in place until at least the spring, by which time seasonal temperatures may dictate that an air conditioning solution may be needed instead.
