S&P GLBL CLN ENGY : Dow, S&P 500 open lower on economy worries

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Dow and the S&P 500 opened lower on Wednesday as a profit shortfall by major manufacturer Deere & Co and a report showing retail sales fell last month fueled worries about the health of the U.S. economy.

But the Nasdaq was little changed, with Apple gaining more than 1 percent, following news that the company has tapped Best Buy to expand sales of its iPhone.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 72.30 points, or 0.62 percent, at 11,570.17, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> declined 4.75 points, or 0.37 percent, at 1,284.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> dipped 1.59 points, or 0.07 percent, at 2,429.02.
