Have you got extra waste thanks to the festive season? Easy fixes are available

Residents are reminded to use only their allocated waste and recycling bins to dispose of waste and recycling.

Whitehorse Councillor Bill Bennett said the amount of domestic general and recycling waste often grew at this time of year when many people spend the summer holiday period celebrating various occasions and entertaining.

'Council has selected the various sizes of domestic bins on offer to residents, confident that their capacity is suitable. Public litter bins should not be used for domestic waste, and it is not wise to over fill your own bins each collection day,' Cr Bennett said.

'Beside Council's suite of kerbside waste services, we also provide drop off services at the Whitehorse Recycling and Waste Centre. If you are consistently over filling your bins consider if you can recycle more and order an additional recycling bin from Council at no charge. Excess recyclable materials can also be dropped off for free at the Whitehorse Recycling and Waste Centre.'

Almost half the average Whitehorse rubbish bin is food waste. You can reduce your waste by composting much of it at home. Pick up some tips for reducing food waste at www.whitehorse.vic.gov.au/Love-Food-Hate-Waste.html
