(MPI) - Under the official visit of the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Vietnam, on January 17th 2017, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Japanese counterpart co-chaired Vietnam - Japan Enterprises Conference.

Speaking at the Conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that Japan is the leading country providing ODA for Vietnam. Japan ranks second among foreign investors, ranks third in terms of tourists and ranked fourth among commercial partners of Vietnam. Since 2016, Vietnam has attracted US$ 2 billion of Japanese enterprises' investment capital, raising it to US$ 42 billion.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc reaffirmed the consistent policy of considering Japan as a long-term and leading important partner of Vietnam. Vietnam's economy is open and integrates deeply and widely while legal system facilitates foreign enterprises to do their business. Macro economy, politics and society maintain their stabilization. Vietnam Government has been improving business climate proactively and determinedly striving to be ranked in the top of ASEAN countries in 2017.

Vietnam Government encourages Japanese firms' investment related to green growth, cooperative projects under Vietnam's Industrialization Strategy within the framework of Vietnam - Japan cooperation towards 2020 with a vision till 2030, high quality infrastructure development, PPP projects, high quality services, high quality agriculture, manufacturing industry, especially taking part in the equitization process of SOEs and supporting startup projects.

Speaking at the Conference, Japanese Prime Minister said that all Japan's leading businesses here pay great attention to Vietnamese market and believe this is an opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral investment cooperation.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe informed that there are 1,600 Japanese firms doing business in Vietnam now and pleasured for their contributions to Vietnam's development by investment activities, employment creation, technical transference. The Prime Minister hoped that Vietnam Government would continue supporting and paying attention to Japanese enterprises with advantage of high technology, experience in production and business. Japanese businesses always desire to contribute to Vietnamese economic development by transferring high technology and training human resources.

At the Conference, representatives of the leading Japanese firms shared information on export of garment products, agricultural, forestry, fishery products; import of chemistry; training of doctors, nurses, care for the elderly in nursing homes, preventive medicine. They will also focus on improving skills of Vietnamese laborers by conducting activities to upgrade skills of machinery engineering students with the hope to further contribute to Vietnamese economic development.

At the Conference, representatives of Vietnam's side including Vietinbank, FPT, Viglacera, Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) also shared some information to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries' firms in their potential fields./.
