Phoenix Health Systems, the premier enabler of better patient care through information technology (IT), today announced that Tulare Regional Medical Center (TRMC), a safety-net hospital in California’s agricultural San Joaquin Valley, has signed contracts for software implementation management and infrastructure support.

Located in the southern half of California’s huge Central Valley, Tulare County has the highest total of agricultural sales in the United States. The rural and agricultural nature of the region magnifies the importance of TRMC in treating work-related injuries, but it also creates challenges in terms of finding local support for IT projects. With the Phoenix partnership, TRMC now has an established source of expertise that will not be diminished by geography or labor fluctuations.

“We take the care we give very seriously and consider it a privilege to serve a community that works so hard to provide for California and the nation,” said Tulare Local Health Care District Board Chairman and President Sherrie Bell. “The advantages of health IT and the expertise provided by Phoenix Health Systems enable Tulare Regional Medical Center and similar community hospitals to achieve the best possible healthcare. Many of the specific IT challenges we might face otherwise are alleviated through our partnership with Phoenix.”

The signed contracts are actually formal continuation of an existing relationship. Recently, Phoenix supported TRMC in the search for a new health IT vendor, during contract negotiations with that vendor and in an associated overhaul of the hospital’s IT department. Specific to the most recent contracts, Phoenix will manage implementation of the new platform, provide infrastructure support via onsite and remote personnel, remotely monitor TRMC’s IT environment and provide service desk support.

“Our relationship with Tulare Regional Medical Center is important because it demonstrates that rural healthcare providers can use technology and strategic partnerships to provide very high levels of care,” said Phoenix Health Systems President Ron Gue. “Tulare is like so many community hospitals across America, and we view this relationship as a model for how IT can have as much positive impact on rural hospitals as it does in more urban areas. Phoenix is proud to support TRMC administrators, clinicians and staff in this healthcare enhancement project.”
