Sloan, Bagley, Hatcher & Perry Law Firm (www.sloanfirm.com), the first national ambassador for the Justice 4 Children Foundations’ Heads In Helmets safety program, deepened its commitment to residents of Houston, Baytown and Beaumont last year through a new strategic alliance with Legacy Community Health Services: Volunteers from The Sloan Firm and Heads In Helmets teamed up with Legacy Community Health Services staff to custom-fit and donate more than 500 bicycle safety helmets at back-to-school events in August in Houston and Baytown and at a holiday event in December in Beaumont.

Legacy Community Health Services (www.legacycommunityhealth.org), a not-for-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), provides comprehensive care to over 85,000 community members regardless of their ability to pay. Previously operating as The Montrose Clinic which opened in Houston in 1981, Legacy specialized in HIV education, testing and treatment. Since then, the agency has expanded to clinics in Houston, Baytown and Beaumont and offers extensive services that include adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, dental, vision and behavioral health.

“Legacy Community Health Services is truly grateful for our new relationship with Sloan, Bagley, Hatcher & Perry Law Firm. The firm’s support enables Legacy to better promote healthy living to our patients. Parents of children who received the free helmets were very appreciative because most of the children have never had a safety helmet. Receiving these helmets made the families more aware of head injuries, bike safety and the importance of physical fitness,” commented Chief Development Officer Chree Boydstun.

The Justice 4 Children Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1999 by Howard Spiva of The Spiva Law Group in 1999 in Savannah, Ga. The goal of the Heads In Helmets program is to raise awareness of head trauma to children and to provide free safety helmets in an effort to prevent head injuries. The Sloan Firm, which is headquartered in Longview, Texas, opened a Houston office in December 2010. The Sloan Firm became the first national ambassador for Heads In Helmets in 2013. Since then, the firm has donated 3,758 helmets to children, with a total impact on 11,274 people in Texas (including parents and guardians). The firm won a national Corporate Social Responsibility Award last year for its 2013 Heads in Helmets community outreach initiatives.

“We admire the great work that Legacy Community Health Services is doing to improve the lives of so many men, women and children. Texas has a high number of uninsured residents, and Legacy provides care for people who may not otherwise be able to receive it. Our firm is committed to building and maintaining relationships with health and safety organizations such as Legacy in key cities throughout Texas. We want to be known not only as the lawyers who give away free helmets, but more so as the lawyers who have compassion for those who are often overlooked and underserved,” commented Kevin Fullen, administrator for Sloan, Bagley, Hatcher & Perry.
