Skylight® Healthcare Systems, the pioneer in interactive patient engagement systems, has achieved ONC-ACB 2014 Edition Modular Inpatient EHR Certification for CareNavigator 2.5 and 2014 Edition Modular Ambulatory EHR Certification for CareNavigator 2.5.

The solutions were certified by ICSA Labs, an Office of the National Coordinator-Authorized Certification Body (ONC-ACB) in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). This certification confirms that Skylight CareNavigator TM satisfies the set of standards specified in the Patient-Specific Education objective identified in the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Incentive Program and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC).The Patient-Specific Education Objective is a requirement in Meaningful Use Stage 2 of the program. Hospitals must attest to this objective in order to receive reimbursement incentives.

"We were the first interactive patient system to receive meaningful use certification," said Tom Klopack, CEO, Skylight Healthcare Systems. "Since the identification and delivery of patient education can be automated and delivered through our system, this became an essential element to help our hospital partners that are participating in the Meaningful Use program. It is just one more way we can demonstrate our commitment to improving the patient experience and enhancing the efficiency of the clinical staff."

The Patient-Specific Education Resources objective was established to help medical professionals and patients make better decisions about their health. The objective was designed to encourage medical professionals and hospitals to leverage functionality built into certified EHR technology that evaluates information about the patient and then suggests clinically relevant and valuable education resources.

In order to attest against this objective, an eligible hospital must demonstrate that at least 10 percent of admitted, unique patients that received patient-specific education resources, received resources that were identified by a certified EHR technology.

Because Skylight CareNavigator TM, Skylight Healthcare's interactive patient system, can transfer health education information to the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) it is considered a module of an electronic health record. As a certified EHR technology provider, hospitals using Skylight CareNavigator are eligible for incentive payments from CMS.

Interactive patient engagement systems like Skylight CareNavigator provide and deliver patient education through the patient television during hospitalization and through a secure web-based connection before and after hospitalization. The anywhere, anytime availability of patient education enabled by the use of the CareNavigator system has made interactive patient systems a vital element in patient education programs at many of the nation's hospitals.
