VISTA, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 27, 2016) - Each year around the holiday season, local contractor Sherlock Heating and Air Conditioning searches for an individual or family in need of heat in their home and donates the time and equipment to "bring the heat." This year, Sherlock learned of a need that impacted the six residents of Downstown in San Marcos -- their 25 year old furnace was on its last legs.

Sherlock was alerted to the need by a staff member of North Coast Church in Vista who works closely with Downstown in coordinating community service projects. Founder and President Aaron Sherlock said, "Once we learned that Downstown needed a new furnace, we got excited about the opportunity to work with them. They've done such an amazing job serving North County for over 30 years. We consider it a privilege to help in this small way."

When Sherlock mentioned what they were doing to their vendors a few of them wanted to step up and help as well. The original idea was to simply replace the furnace, but thanks to donations from two key vendors, the project took on a larger scope. Goodman Manufacturing donated the furnace and air conditioner, while AC Pro donated all the ducting supplies. Sherlock now plans to replace the furnace, add air conditioning, and provide all new ducting and filters, thereby improving comfort and air quality for the residents.

Founder Mary Jorgenson could not have been more thrilled. "It's an amazing blessing," she said. "I can barely believe it!"

Downstown, Inc. was founded by Jorgenson and her late mother, Evelyn, in 1984. The San Marcos location is just one in a network of six homes under the Downstown umbrella that serves adults with developmental disabilities. According to their website, Downstown strives to "enable their residents to exercise as much independence as possible by teaching new skills they can apply in daily life."

Aaron Sherlock said, "This project dovetails well with our mission to 'provide ideal comfort for our clients while fostering personal and professional growth within our team.' Part of that personal growth comes from providing opportunities for our staff to give back to the community."

The installation -- along with a celebratory pancake breakfast -- will be provided by an all-volunteer team of Sherlock employees on Saturday, January 30th, 2016.
