Indiana-based Serenade Foods recalled about 59,251 pounds of frozen chicken products due to the potential risk of salmonella, including items under Aldi's Kirkwood brand and the Milford Valley and Dutch Farms brands.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service listed five recalled items late Monday, including chicken with broccoli and cheese and chicken cordon bleu. The recalled products have establishment number P-2375 inside the USDA mark of inspection.

FSIS and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said June 2 that they were investigating salmonella cases potentially linked to frozen chicken items. They emphasized risks from improper cooking, like using microwaves or air fryers instead of ovens.

The June 2 FSIS alert didn't mention specific brands, while the CDC had one reference to Kirkwood at the time, noting Minnesota testing results, but said people who got sick ate different brands from multiple stores.

FSIS said Monday that the salmonella outbreak includes 28 illnesses in eight states, with onset dates ranging from Feb. 21 through June 28.
