Components Division of the Liebherr Group has recently impressed the industrial world by completing a roller-bearing slewing ring with a weight of about 40 tonnes and an outer diameter of around 10 metres. The largest bearing of its kind was produced at the manufacturer's site in Biberach (Germany).

Due to its striking size, this technological wonder was machined in individual segments and inductively hardened. The development and production process took about 12 months. Then it was necessary to dismantle the complete bearing for transportation. As of today, it has already been installed on site.

Such huge bearings are mostly developed for ship and offshore cranes. The new large-diameter bearing represents the expansion of Liebherr's component portfolio. Previously it included the bearing series with a range of diameters from 800 mm to 6,000 mm. The fresh product offering exceeds these limits and comes in single-piece as well as segmented versions. As for large segmented bearings, they are mostly designed as three-row roller bearing slewing rings.
