DUNCANNON, Jan. 20, 2016 - Duncannon Borough has been awarded a significant state grant to upgrade its water system, according to state Sen. Rob Teplitz.

The borough will receive a $750,000 competitive Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) to install a new booster/chemical treatment station, drill a new well, and install back-up generators for power outages.

'This grant will help Duncannon make critical upgrades to continue to provide reliable water service and ensure a stable water infrastructure for years to come,' said Teplitz (D-Dauphin/Perry). 'This announcement is good news for the borough and the county, and I'm grateful to DCED for agreeing to support this project.'

Duncannon Borough owns and operates a public water system that serves 658 residential customers and 50 commercial businesses located both inside and outside of the borough limits. The water distribution system needs to be upgraded due to outdated equipment, corroded water lines and contaminated wells.
