WASHINGTON, DC - Rep. Pete Olson released the following statement today in response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) decision not to move forward immediately with added compensation for coal and nuclear-fired power plants in competitive energy markets:

'Coal and nuclear power play a critical role in our bulk power system, and I appreciate my friend Secretary Perry's desire to spark a conversation on how these energy sources are compensated. However, I continue to believe that regulators must tread very lightly if market forces are to remain the bedrock of a reliable and affordable energy system. No market design is perfect and our oversight must continue, but in doing so policymakers across our government should focus on removing artificial support for one source of energy or another. I look forward to continuing this discussion.'
