John Paglia, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Finance and founder and past director of the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project, has been appointed Interim Associate Dean with responsibility for Fully Employed Programs at the Graziadio School of Business and Management, announced Dean Linda A. Livingstone.

"Dr. Paglia will oversee part-time evening programs for working professionals, including the Fully Employed MBA, Bachelor of Science in Management, M.S. in Management and Leadership, M.S. in Entrepreneurship and M.S. in Applied Finance degree offerings," said Dean Livingstone. "He will also oversee student recruitment for these programs and the Graziadio School's marketing, communications and public relations operations."

Paglia succeeds Dr. Gary Mangiofico, who was appointed Associate Dean in 2010, responsible for Fully-Employed Programs and Executive Programs. Mangiofico will continue as Associate Dean with oversight of the degree programs Executive MBA, M.S. in Organization Development and Presidents and Key Executives MBA (PKE); non-degree Executive Education programs, as well as Admission, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid.

Paglia most recently served as chair of the Finance and Accounting Department. He was appointed Director of Accreditation in July 2013 and will continue in that role.

Paglia, a former Julian Virtue and Denney Professorship recipient, has a dozen years of university teaching experience in finance, has performed business valuations for privately-held companies, and has testified on economic damage and valuation matters.

In 2007, Paglia established the Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project, the first simultaneous, comprehensive, and on-going investigation of the major private capital market segments. He created cost of capital studies, economic forecasts, and the monthly Private Capital Access (PCA) Index, produced in partnership with Dun & Bradstreet. His research earned the 2011 "George Award," which is given to the one faculty member who best leverages connections with the business community to make a difference in the classroom. He was also awarded the inaugural "Tom Hopkins Award for Excellence in M&A" in 2011 by the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) and the "Third Annual Middle Market Thought Leader Award" in 2012 by Grant Thornton and The Alliance for Mergers & Acquisitions Advisors (AM&AA).

Paglia is a frequent speaker on the topics of privately-held company cost of capital, valuation, access to capital, and financing and deal trends at valuation and M&A conferences pertaining to small businesses and middle market companies. In addition to authoring eight Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Project reports, his other research addresses financial contracting characteristics, discounts for lack of marketability (liquidity), the private cost of capital model, and financing choices for privately-held companies. His work has been published in a number of journals including Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance, Journal of Business Valuation and Economic Loss Analysis, Business Valuation Review, The Value Examiner, Journal of Wealth Management, The RMA Journal, Graziadio Business Review, and others.

Paglia holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Kentucky and an MBA and a B.S. in finance from Gannon University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder. Paglia is a resident of Newbury Park, CA.
