On January 3, an agreement was signed with the Awajún community of Santa Rosa and neighboring communities, to enable the environmental repair and remediation work at Km 323 of the North Peruvian Pipeline, in the Manseriche district, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region.

It was reported that PETROPERU will, as soon as possible, contract top-of-the-line companies for the repair of the pipeline, as well as for the containment, cleaning and remediation tasks in the area. Likewise, it was agreed that local companies participate in the provision of unskilled labor for these tasks -considering gender equity- and environmental monitors from the community to monitor and assess the case.

In addition, the delivery of non-perishable food and potable water to the population by PETROPERU was formalized up to what is determined in the water quality assessment; for which the state oil company is calling the General Directorate of Environmental Health and the National Water Authority. Likewise, it is committed to facilitate the presence of sectors of the State to meet the social demands of the community.

The cause of this incident is under investigation, and the amount of oil spilled cannot yet be determined. Both the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency and the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining were notified and carried out on-site supervision activities; as did the National Police and the Public Ministry.

PETROPERU has been working hard to repair the pipeline, meet the needs of the population and carry out the corresponding remediation in the shortest possible time, in order to restore the environment to its normal operating conditions.
