• The Centre Will Strengthen the Petróleos Mexicanos Human Capital, to Respond to the New Competitive Environment

Tula de Allende, Hidalgo.- As a part of Pemex' strategy to strengthen its human capital to guarantee the highest operating quality, safety and environmental protection, the Tula Training Centre was officially established in the Miguel Hidalgo Refinery, where oil workers will be trained.

In the presence of the General Director of Pemex, José Antonio González Anaya, of the governor of the State of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad, and the General Secretary of the Union of Oil Workers of the Mexican Republic (STPRM), Carlos Romero Deschamps, this Centre, which is the first teaching plant created in Pemex' history, was established and commissioned. The goal is to provide the theoretical and practical professionalisation of personnel coming from oil facilities in the entire county, thereby furthering the professional and technical development of our workers.

With 10 classrooms, 2 workshops and plant startup simulators, the Center seeks to strengthen the knowledge and abilities of both unionised and trusted personnel in the operation of processing plants, electrical maintenance, in the usage of specialised instruments and mechanical systems. It will also offer various courses and workshops on safety, occupational health and environmental protection.

In his speech, José Antonio González Anaya acknowledged the importance of this achievement, which promotes and strengthens the training culture for the benefit of oil workers. He pointed out, as he has on other occasions, that Pemex' main asset are its people, so that betting on their training is fundamental to maintain an efficient, modern and competitive corporation.

González Anaya also pointed out that, for Pemex to continue being Mexico's flagship company and one of the best oil companies in the world, it is necessary to accelerate the process of training its personnel, by enriching the formative offer through educational activities with prestigious public and private institutions, based on programs that are specifically designed to meet the industry's requirements.

As for Carlos Romero Deschamps, general secretary of the STPRM, he stated that this is great progress in operational reliability, as this training centre will have a technological platform for the use of simulators that will be independent from the classrooms, and the workshops can train up to 400 workers at a time.

During his speech, the Governor of the State of Hidalgo, Omar Fayad, stated that the challenges for the hydrocarbons sector over the next few years will be crucial and that Pemex, by training its workers, turns them into efficient and competitive Human Resources.

Pemex is living a historical moment with the implementation of the Energy Reform, and now, as one more participant in an open sector, it is ready to compete as a company and thus, continue producing the fuels required by the country, he pointed out.

In this project, both internal and external trainers are currently participating in the instruction of Pemex workers, and it is considered that this training centre can be self- sustaining in the future.
