Nova Scotia Power : NS Power work necessitates partial trail closure

HALIFAX, NS - Nova Scotia Power is carrying out maintenance improvements over the next few weeks on a transmission line in Clayton Park West. The line runs parallel to a popular walking trail so, for everyone's safety, there will be periodic short term closures of sections of the trail.

'A portion of the work is going to be carried out while the transmission line is live to maintain reliable service to customers in the area,' said Senior Engineer Sara Tingley. 'That means we need to periodically close short sections of the Mainland North Linear Parkway trail to ensure the safety of both our customers and our line crews.'

The work began this morning with a one day closure on a section of trail between Parkland Drive and Farnham Gate Road. The work along the trail is expected to last about a month. However, it is weather dependent. Rain, snow and strong winds could affect the timeline since the crews will be working with live wires. The proactive work is necessary to ensure the reliability of electrical service to customers. It's being carried out by Emera Utility Services and involves primarily the replacement of poles and insulators. This means crews will need to travel along sections of the trail in their machinery to carry out the work.
