A Kilkeel man was fined a total of £615 and had his Driving Licence endorsed with six penalty points at Newry Magistrates' Court on 16 January 2017.

Mr John Nigel Harper of Church View Close, Kilkeel was fined £100 for having no Taxi Vehicle Licence, £100 for having no Taxi Driver's Licence and £100 having no Taxi Operator's Licence. He was also fined £300 and given six penalty points for the offence of having no insurance and ordered to pay an offender levy of £15.

On 2 July 2016 DVA enforcement officers requested a taxi from an entertainment establishment in Kilkeel. A short time later Mr Harper presented himself as a taxi driver and conveyed the officers to their destination where he was stopped and follow up checks confirmed that he was operating an unlicensed taxi without valid insurance.
