Consumer Energy Alliance Report Underscores Critical Importance of Natural Gas Infrastructure Development

(Washington, D.C.) -- Dena E. Wiggins, president and CEO of the Natural Gas Supply Association, made the following statement about the Consumer Energy Alliance's report "Families, Communities and Finances: The Consequences of Denying Critical Pipeline Infrastructure" released today.

"CEA's report does an outstanding job of quantifying the harmful consequences that would befall American households if the U.S. pipeline network is not allowed to expand. Without the necessary pipeline infrastructure, nearly one-third of electric power plant capacity would be removed; the costs of goods would climb sharply; electric rates for homes, businesses, manufacturers and utilities would skyrocket; jobs in key sectors would be lost and U.S. businesses would be at a tremendous competitive disadvantage.

"Natural gas infrastructure is critical to the U.S. economy, manufacturing and households and this report makes it evident that policymakers must bear in mind the consequences of failing to build infrastructure when they consider natural gas projects."
