A message from farmers reached millions of people yesterday (7 January 2014) when the NFU 'Thank you for buying British' video was featured on Sky TV.

The video was broadcast as a lunchtime feature on Sky news following Owen Paterson's speech at the Oxford Farming Conference. The Secretary of State called for the public to buy more British and seasonal food.

To acknowledge public support, farmers representing all farming sectors recorded a video to say a big 'thank you' to the public for backing British farming and buying the food they produce every day of the year.

The farming sector received phenomenal support from the British public during 2013 with producers continuing to deliver high quality British food - despite challenges including the unseasonable snow last April that disrupted thousands of farming businesses.

NFU Vice President Adam Quinney said: "After the furore at the start of last year over horsemeat, complex food chains and mislabelling, consumers have increasingly shown their support for British farmers.

"This video is just a small way of saying thank you to the people of Britain for backing British farming. Our farmers and growers will continue to work hard to put more British food on more British plates and will continue to show how farming delivers for Britain.
