Modernizing Medicine, Inc. announced today that the South Florida Business Journal selected its Chief Financial Officer Karen O'Byrne as a finalist in this year's CFO Awards. The award recognizes top financial executives across the region, selecting winners based on financial management, strategic thinking and contributions to corporate reputation.

Karen joined Modernizing Medicine in 2011 and helped grow the company from 20 to 150 team members. Her accomplishments include introducing foundational account and revenue recognition policies, as well as employee affiliate programs, as part of an effort to maximize employee satisfaction and recruitment initiatives. Karen was essential in raising approximately $14MM in growth capital during the summer of 2013, and the South Florida Business Journal recently recognized her efforts by naming her one of its Most Influential Business Women in 2013.

Prior to her work with Modernizing Medicine, Karen worked in public accounting for nine years before joining the corporate side of finance in the technology industry during the .com boom. She held a senior level finance position at Verio (formerly Highway Technologies) in Boca Raton and also served as the CFO of Campus Management, two of the largest technology and software companies in the region.

"This past year was a momentous one for Modernizing Medicine, and Karen plays an active key role in the company's success," said Daniel Cane, President and CEO of Modernizing Medicine. "We owe many of our accomplishments to Karen's talent and expertise, and with her leadership we look forward to achieving many more milestones in the years ahead."

The South Florida Business Journal will profile finalists in its January 24 edition, following a reception on January 22 where the winners will be announced. For the full list of finalists and more information on the event, please visit the South Florida Business Journal's website.
