MSUSA is pleased to announce the authorization of their first conservation bank in Oklahoma.

Located in Central Oklahoma, Muddy Boggy Conservation Bank is home to the American Burying Beetle, a species listed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as critically endangered. This bank services unavoidable impacts due to various development activities that occur within ABB Priority Areas throughout the state of Oklahoma. These priority areas occur within Atoka, Bryan, Cherokee, Choctaw, Coal, Haskell, Hughes, Johnston, Latimer, Le Flore, Muskogee, McCurtain, McIntosh, Okfuskee, Pittsburg, Pontotoc, Pushmataha, Osage, Seminole, and Sequoyah counties. The USFWS extended consultation areas cover the majority of eastern Oklahoma.

As multiple pipelines and transmission lines are slated to begin their ascent through the remainder of the United States, Oklahoma has become a critically strategic area with Cushing, OK serving as the largest U.S. oil-storage hub and delivery point for oil futures. Throughout Oklahoma, Muddy Boggy will be a key component in the permitting process for all developers, including the oil and gas industry (E&P, midstream, and downstream), government infrastructure providers and the transportation sector.

Why purchase conservation credits?

Purchasing credits from an approved conservation bank eliminates ongoing liability and releases entities from any further fiscal or disclosure requirements associated with their habitat conservation obligations. "Species credits operate very similarly to wetland credits certified through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers," says Terry McKenzie, MSUSA president. "Developers who choose to purchase these credits can rest easy knowing that they were established by environmental experts and that their liability has been completely eliminated."

"Purchasing credits from an approved conservation bank offers the developer peace of mind," explains MSUSA Vice President Troy Madrigal. "Because the conservation bank retains responsibility for all aspects of the bank, the purchasers can simply buy credits and move on with their project in a more streamlined fashion than with other options."
