06 January 2017, Beijing:

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Mr. Li Yuanchao, Vice President of the People's Republic of China this afternoon.

During the meeting, Minister Asim and Vice President expressed their commitment on further strengthening the existing friendly bilateral relations between the two countries. Minister Asim expressed gratitude to the government of China for its continued contribution to the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

Highlighting that China remains the number one tourist market of the Maldives, the Vice President and Minister Asim discussed the importance of cooperation in the area of tourism.

Since this year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Maldives and China, both expressed hope on celebrating the occasion in a special manner.

Ambassador of Maldives to the People's Republic of China Mr. Mohamed Faisal, Ambassador Ahmed Khaleel Secretary Bilateral, Mr. Hussain Sharif, Desk Officer at the China Desk, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senior officials of the Embassy accompanied Minister Asim to the courtesy call.
