The Interdepartmental Council for evaluation, prioritisation and selection of project and programme proposals for attaining the objectives of the Public Investment Programme (PIP) had its second meeting at which it continued the consideration of municipal project proposals. Another 50 application forms from regional governors amounting BGN 250 million for projects of regional importance were received at the Ministry of Finance and added to those considered at the previous meeting. Now the total number of proposals to be considered by the Interdepartmental Council is 1,100 amounting to BGN 2.193 billion, of which for 2014 municipalities apply for BGN 1.782 billion distributed by sector:

  • water supply and sewage systems and other activities related to the environment - BGN 377.4 million;
  • transport infrastructure - BGN 485.8 million;
  • social and cultural infrastructure - BGN 397.7 million;
  • other sectors supporting social and economic development - BGN 521.3 million.

The Council also discussed specific issues related to the financing of the projects under the Public Investment Programme. A decision has been made approved projects to receive in advance 30% of the project amount and subsequent payments to be made based on supporting documents regarding expenditure submitted by beneficiaries. Minister Chobanov once again emphasized that the programmes of the central administration to be financed under PIP will be in line with the approved municipal projects in order to ensure optimum utilization of resources and to attain tangible for the people development.
