Based on feedback concerning rationalization of cost, returns and tariff determination from the Public during the 2013-2016 tariff review process and in keeping with provisions of the Bhutan Electricity Act 2001, the Royal Government had approved the Domestic Electricity Tariff Policy (DETP) in March 2016. BEA accordingly amended the Tariff Determination Regulation (TDR) subsequently.
In accordance with revised TDR, DGPC and BPC submitted the domestic generation and supply tariff proposal for next three years (2016/17-2018/19) to BEA in April 2016. BEA had to conduct Public Hearing on June 9, 2016 as part of the review of the tariff proposals.
Based on the comprehensive review of the proposal and the comments received from the electricity consumers during the public hearing and the written comments received thereafter, the BEA approved the average cost of supply/unsubsidized tariff for the DGPC and BPC as shown in Table below.
