WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) issued this statement after it was announced he will serve as a member of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence during the 115 Congress:

'Throughout our history intelligence gathering has played an integral role in shaping foreign policy, often saving lives and preserving stability across the globe. It is a privilege and honor to serve in this new role, and I look forward to working with our intelligence community to keep Americans safe at home and abroad.'

In addition to serving on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Senator Cornyn will continue to serve as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Finance Committee.
