During 2021, more than 12 thousand Moscow families purchased apartment insurance policies under the new program of Ingosstrakh Insurance Company, proposed as an alternative to the previously existing City Housing Insurance Program. On January 1, 2021, the product was launched by the company after the implementation of the comprehensive housing insurance system of the Moscow Government was completed.
The Ingosstrakh Insurance Company's apartment insurance policy provides Muscovites with housing protection against the most common risks, including fire, natural disasters, short circuits, explosions, water damage, and damage to engineering systems. The annual insurance premium is the same for all categories of apartment buildings and amounts to 2 rubles 30 kopecks per month or 27 rubles 60 kopecks per year for 1 sq. m. of the total area of the apartment. The maximum amount of compensation is RUB 44,000 for 1 sq. m of the total living space.
During 2021, under this program, Ingosstrakh Insurance Company settled 122 insured accidents; the total amount of payments amounted to RUB 6.5 m. Most of the losses are associated with damage to engineering systems (flooding), but the largest payments traditionally fall on fires.
"Some insured accidents caused serious damage to the property of our clients. In particular, a resident of a house on Malaya Gruzinskaya Street received insurance compensation from Ingosstrakh Insurance Company in the amount of RUB 1.1 m. A fire broke out in the owner's apartment due to a faulty electrical wiring. The damage from the fire is significant, while the insurance policy itself cost the Muscovite only RUB 2,562. Taking into account the demand for personal property insurance, Ingosstrakh Insurance Company will continue to work in this direction, offering citizens housing protection against the most common risks at an affordable price," Evgenia Litvin, deputy head of Housing Insurance Department of Ingosstrakh Insurance Company, comments.

Let us recall that the City Housing Insurance Program has been operating in Moscow for 25 years. Over the years, it has won the trust of Moscow residents; 2.5 million families have taken advantage of the insurance; more than 205 thousand insured events have been settled, for which the victims were compensated for a total of almost RUB 4 bn. At the end of 2020, the Moscow Government decided not to select insurance companies for further participation in the program; the charge for the "voluntary insurance" service in the unified payment documents for utilities has been excluded since December 2020. Muscovites were invited to contact insurance companies directly.
